The Mum Mane: The Double Dutch Braid
If you saw the tutorial about how to get bigger, fuller braids you’re ahead of the class on this hair tutorial. Like I said in that post, my favorite way to cover up my unwashed “mom-do” is to spray it with a little dry shampoo and do a big braid across the front. And this Double Dutch Braid is huge!! It does some major coverup. I will say that with these braids, practice makes perfect, but once you get the hang of it, it takes no time at all to do. Perfect for us busy moms!
What You Need:
First I start by parting a section of the front part of my hair. I like the part to start right above the arch of my eyebrow. And for this braid, since it’s a double, I only section off an inch section, and then pin the rest of my hair back and out of the way with a clip.
Then I get to braiding. To do a dutch braid, you basically do the exact same technique as a regular french braid but instead of pulling the pieces over, you pull them under. If that doesn’t make sense, YouTube has a ton of “How-To” videos.
Once I finish, I secure it with a bobby pin right behind my ear to help hide the pin.
Then I repeat the process with another inch wide section and pin it behind the ear like the first.
Lastly, pull those babies apart! I always hold the base of the braid, near the pin, that way I don’t pull out the entire braid. And I focus on pulling out the outside edges to get the pieces to look really wide and chunky but it keeps the inside portion tighter.
And you’re done!
But you wanna know the best part about this mom approved, braided hairstyle?? You can wear it multiple days and it looks great with a ponytail!
