The Mum Mane: Faux Hawk Pony
This braided hairstyle literally takes less than 5 minutes which makes it perfect for vacations, quick runs to the store, playdates or just any regular day as a mom when you don’t have time to wash, dry and curl/straighten your hair.
What you need
Spray your hair with dry shampoo and do a little teasing at the top all the way to your crown just to give your hair some texture to grip the braid. Section off about a 3 inch wide section from the top all the way to the crown of your head and tie the rest with an elastic to keep it out of the way.
Start braiding the top in a dutch braid. With a dutch braid, you pull the sections underneath the braid, instead of over top like you would with a french braid. You should braid this pretty tight and once you get all of the top section of hair included in the braid, continue to braid about 5 inches past to make sure you have a braid to meet your ponytail.
Grab an elastic and tie it all together. You don’t need to pin the braid at all, just include it in the ponytail.
Don’t pull all of your hair through the ponytail. Leave a little bun and a tail of hair which we will deal with later.
Pull the outside edges of the braid apart. I like this braid really messy so the more you pull out, the better. You can go back up and down the braid pulling it apart until you get it as big as you like it.
Wrap the tail of the bun around the elastic to cover it up. It just gives the hairstyle a more polished look.
And you’re done!
The great thing about this style is you really can’t mess it up; the messier the better. I swear my braid never looks the exact same each time I do it but it always looks really cool.
